This month, UK ENIC’s Research Manager Emma Kirby provides the answer to this question: Is this UK degree programme accredited?

For the most part, programmatic accreditation doesn’t exist in the UK.

Professionally orientated degrees may be accredited by the relevant professional body, but there is no universal system of programmatic accreditation in the UK.

To verify the status of a UK degree, the main thing to check is that the awarding body holds degree-awarding powers. 

Depending on where the institution is located, this can be verified using one of the following links: 

Any Bachelor, Master’s or doctoral degree conferred by an institution that holds UK degree-awarding powers may be considered a recognised UK degree.
