Ask the experts
We are launching a new regular feature in the newsletter called ‘Ask the experts’.
Every month, our Research, Data and Insights team will share answers to some of the most popular questions members ask us.
In this edition, Emma Kirby, UK ENIC’s Research Manager, provides the answer to this question:
What’s the Ofqual Register and when should I use it?
The Ofqual Register is a database of regulated UK qualifications. It lists non-higher education awards specifically, including school, vocational and occupational qualifications.
As it doesn’t relate to higher education, the Register doesn’t therefore feature degrees and other titles commonly associated with universities.
Users can search the Register by qualification or awarding organisation. Note, however, that regulated organisations may offer a combination of regulated and non-regulated qualifications.
It’s often therefore worth checking that the specific award is listed – not just the awarding body.
Note as well that the Ofqual Register is specific to England and Northern Ireland.
The status of counterpart awards from Scotland and Wales can be checked via the following links:
- Wales: Qualifications in Wales
- Scotland: SCQF Register
- Scotland: SQA Accreditation
We will share another popular question and answer next month but if you have any questions in the meantime, please get in touch with UK ENIC.
