UK ENIC attends ENIC-NARIC Networks annual joint meeting in Albania

29 June 2025

Representatives from UK ENIC attended the 32nd Annual Joint Meeting of the ENIC-NARIC Networks in Albania last month (25-27 May).

Organised by the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Albanian ENIC-NARIC with support from the Council of Europe, the meeting in Tirana was attended by over 150 people from over 40 centres.

The joint meeting provides UK ENIC with the opportunity to meet with other centres within the network, have valuable discussions, strengthen partnerships and improve links – with an emphasis on sharing best practice and supporting fellow centres.

Katherine Huang (Director of Operations), Chris Lyons (Head of Policy and Engagement) and Ellisa Marques (Research Engagement Manager) attended on behalf of UK ENIC.

This year’s meeting dealt with a number of themes including:

  • Artificial Intelligence in recognition practices and processes – this included a keynote from Professor Barbara Wasson (University of Bergen)
  • Automatic recognition of higher education qualifications – a current objective and development focus within the ENIC-NARIC network
  • Fraud prevention in the digital era – exploring evolving challenges and seeking and sharing innovative solutions in qualification verification

Chris Lyons, UK ENIC’s Head of Policy and Engagement, said: “With over 40 centres represented at the annual joint meeting, it was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and forge new relationships.

“The programme echoed some of the themes discussed at our ENIC NORTH 2025 event in Scotland in April, particularly those around the balance between technology innovation and a human-centred approach.

“It was clear there is interest from other centres for potential study visits to UK ENIC, underlining the value of peer exchanges and collaboration to refine best practices, and also reflecting the status and esteem with which the UK ENIC is held.”
