Guest speaker slot for UK ENIC at GDN Regional Meeting
UK ENIC was invited to speak at the Groningen Declaration Network (GDN) Regional Meeting in Manchester, UK, earlier this month.
The event, with the theme of ‘Skills without limits: developing the future skills ecosystem’, was held at Manchester Metropolitan University, on 2 and 3 June.
It brought together leaders from government, education, skills bodies, employers and technology organisations to address one of the most pressing priorities: ensuring skills readiness for the future.
Chris Lyons, Head of Policy and Engagement for UK ENIC, was a guest speaker in a roundtable discussion called ‘From dialogue to direction – shaping the GDN Global Workforce Skills agenda’.
The session focused on international approaches to recognition, where he spoke about conventions, the ENIC-NARIC network and the role of UK ENIC.

A week later, Chris joined another GDN event as a webinar panellist to discuss ‘Implementing the UNESCO Global Convention in Admissions, Transfer and Study Abroad: Part 5’.
This online session, on 10 June, focused on Article VIII – Digital Information, Transparency and Institutional Responsibility.
He talked about UK ENIC’s leading role in the open-ended working groups, as well as on the UNESCO Bureau to the Convention and the technical supporting role played to the UK delegation.
Delegates also considered wider issues such as understanding the potential role of AI in the future of education, the possibilities presented by TNE and the challenges presented by fraud.
