ENIC-NARIC Joint Annual Meeting 2026
Greece hosted the 33rd ENIC-NARIC joint annual meeting in Athens between 24 and 26 May.
UK ENIC was among the centres invited to the meeting in the Lighthouse, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre.
Chris Lyons (Head of Policy and Engagement), Abbie Gordon (International Education Analyst) and Ellisa Marques (Research Engagement Manager) attended on behalf of UK ENIC.
There was a packed programme across the three-day event including a keynote speech on ‘Artificial Intelligence and the Certification of Learning’, delivered by Professor Phil Newton from Swansea University.
It explored the processes of individual learning, testing the abilities and boundaries of generative AI in learning, teaching and assessment, while considering the importance of foundational skills and knowledge.
Chris Lyons, Head of Policy and Engagement for UK ENIC, said: “The annual meeting explored themes around AI in relation to qualification recognition and education fraud, as well as continuing discussions on automatic recognition, digital recognition and ‘interoperability’, and vocational qualifications.
“There were also headline updates from the Lisbon Recognition Convention Committee, the ENIC Bureau and the NARIC Advisory Board, as well as the ELCORE Working Group.”
In addition, there was a focus on future recognition updates with input from the European Commission, the Council of Europe, UNESCO and ENQA.
UK ENIC co-presented two sessions on ‘Education as a Migration Pathway’ with Georgia, Italy and Ukraine, as well as ‘Towards a Common Approach to the Recognition of Foreign Qualifications Giving Access to Higher Education’ with Romania, Estonia and Norway.
