UK ENIC attends UNESCO working group
UK ENIC colleagues were among delegations attending the UNESCO open-ended working group on the relationship between the Global and Regional Conventions earlier this month.
Representatives from Australia, Estonia, France, the Holy See, Morocco, Senegal and South Africa also attended the session on 22 April, alongside the UNESCO secretariat.
Chaired by UK ENIC’s Head of Policy and Engagement Chris Lyons, the purpose of the group is to develop a subsidiary text to encourage countries to become signatories of the Global Convention - which establishes fair, transparent and non-discriminatory recognition of higher educations and qualifications, giving access to higher education and offering avenues for further study and employment.
The group also ensures that the relationship between the Global and Regional Conventions is well understood, as most signatories to the Global Convention are also signatories to one of the Regional Conventions.
UK ENIC plays an important role in being a supportive member of the UK delegation - which included DfE colleagues, supported by Zara Green (Deputy Head of Policy and Engagement) - bringing recognition expertise to discussions and representing UK perspectives in conversations, as well as in the development of texts.
