Keynote speaker announced for UKENIC25
We are pleased to announce the keynote speaker for the upcoming UKENIC25 conference in London.
Dr Eleanor Drage will be leading the opening plenary at the two-day event in the QEII Centre, Westminster, on 1 and 2 December.
As Senior Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, and Co-Director of the Narratives and Justice Programme at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, Dr Drage is well-placed to set the scene for this year’s theme: “Innovation and the human connection: harmonising the future of education”.
It’s a continuation of conversations that started at ENIC NORTH in Glasgow, earlier this year.
Her work focuses on ensuring artificial intelligence is developed and used in ways that are ethical, inclusive and accountable. She explores how narratives shape technological design and use, and how these can be reimagined to better serve diverse communities.
Dr Drage co-developed HEAT – the world’s first free, open-access toolkit to help organisations comply with the EU AI Act and also researches the sustainability challenges tied to AI’s material infrastructure, while actively working to dismantle myths about the neutrality and objectivity of AI systems.
Her insights have reached international audiences including on the BBC, Forbes, The Telegraph, Glamour Magazine and more.
Dr Drage is a regular guest on radio and television including BBC World Service, BBC Radio 3 and 4, France24 and Ireland’s national broadcaster RTÉ, and has written a number of books including ‘An Experience of the Impossible: the Planetary Humanism of European Women’s SF’.
Alongside her research, Dr Drage is a Bye-Fellow and Tutor at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, where she supports students and contributes to broader university life.
Chris Lyons, UK ENIC’s Head of Policy and Engagement, and conference programme lead, said: “We are delighted to welcome Dr Eleanor Drage to UKENIC25 in London later this year.
“Dr Drage’s expertise in artificial intelligence and ethics will provide a valuable perspective into how emerging technologies are shaping education and the world around us, which will perfectly set the scene for discussions across our two-day event.”
UKENIC25 is in association with Skills for English, IELTS and LANGUAGECERT. It is supported by Oxford International Digital Institute, UniQuest, Gecko, Qualification Check, Ecctis, TOEFL, Cambridge University Press & Assessment and Trinity College London.
